I first played The Legend of Galahad on the Sega Genesis back in 1992. It was developed by Core Design Ltd., the same studio that later worked on Tomb Raider. This was during a time when the Genesis was full of side-scrolling action games, and this one fit right in with its medieval fantasy setting.

You control Galahad, a knight armed with a sword, navigating a series of side-scrolling levels. Your main goal is to rescue a princess by fighting through monsters and exploring castles and dungeons. The game uses a screen-by-screen progression; each new screen loads as you move, which makes the exploration feel deliberate. You use your sword for close combat and can also find a bow for ranged attacks against enemies like skeletons and flying creatures. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty is quite unforgiving, demanding precise jumps and careful enemy encounters. Playing it feels like a persistent, sometimes punishing, trek through a dangerous fantasy world.
