Landstalker on the Genesis is one of those games that sticks with you—part Zelda-like adventure, part isometric platformer, with just enough jank to make it charming. You play as Nigel, a cocky treasure hunter who jumps around like he’s got springs in his boots, swinging his sword at bats and skeletons while hunting for the Emperor’s treasure.

The perspective takes some getting used to—you’ll misjudge jumps at first because depth is weird in that pseudo-3D view—but once it clicks, the dungeons and puzzles are surprisingly clever. There’s a ton of hidden loot tucked behind fake walls or under suspicious-looking trees, and the NPCs have that classic ’90s RPG attitude (one guy literally charges you for hints).

It’s not perfect—the platforming can feel unfair, and the translation’s a bit rough—but the vibe is unbeatable. That soundtrack? Pure Sega magic. If you’re into retro action-RPGs with personality, this one’s a time capsule worth cracking open.
