I picked up LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures for the Nintendo DS back in 2008, a time when the handheld was full of these blocky, charming adaptations. Traveller's Tales was the developer, and they managed to squeeze the first three Indy films into this little cartridge. It felt right at home on the DS, a system that had its share of movie tie-ins, but this one stood out because it was just fun to mess around with.

You control a little LEGO Indiana Jones, or any of the dozens of unlockable characters, running through levels that recreate scenes from the movies. Your main goal is to smash everything in sight, solve simple environmental puzzles by building objects from scattered LEGO bits, and collect studs, the in-game currency. A couple of the key mechanics are the character-specific abilities, like Indy using his whip to swing across gaps or scholars translating ancient text, and the cooperative play where a second player could jump in. The pacing is generally relaxed, with the challenge coming more from finding all the hidden collectibles than from any difficult combat. It feels like a playful, lighthearted puzzle box where you are constantly rewarded for breaking things.
