About Lego Harry Potter - Years 1-4 (eu)
I first played LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 on my Nintendo DS back in 2010. It was developed by Traveller's Tales, a studio that was putting out a lot of these LEGO adaptations at the time. The DS was perfect for this kind of game; you could take it anywhere, and the dual screens felt like a natural fit for the magical world.
You control Harry, Ron, and Hermione, switching between them to solve puzzles and explore locations from the first four books. The main goal is to progress through the story, from your first trip to Diagon Alley to the Triwizard Tournament. You spend your time casting spells by drawing patterns on the touch screen, breaking apart LEGO objects to collect studs, and unlocking new characters and areas. The game is not particularly difficult, focusing more on exploration and collection than on challenging combat. It feels like a relaxed, interactive tour through Hogwarts where the magic is in the simple act of building and discovering.
