About Klax
Klax came out for the Sega Genesis in 1990, published by Atari Games. It was part of that wave of straightforward arcade puzzle games that found a solid home on consoles, a time when you could just pick up and play something without a long story or complicated setup. The game didn't try to be more than it was, which was a refreshingly direct experience.
You control a small paddle at the bottom of the screen, catching colored tiles that slide down a ramp. Your main job is to place these tiles into a grid at the bottom to form lines of three or more of the same color, called Klaxes, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. The key mechanics involve planning your tile placements carefully and sometimes tilting the ramp to change the flow of incoming pieces. The game starts calmly but the speed increases steadily, demanding quicker decisions as the tiles pour down faster. It feels like a constant, engaging battle against the ramp's accelerating pace.
