Kishi Densetsu is one of those Genesis RPGs that somehow flew under the radar back in the day, but man, it's got this weirdly satisfying rhythm to it. You start off with this basic knight dude, swinging your sword at slimes in the woods, and before long you're recruiting weird party members like a ninja who throws coins instead of shurikens.

The combat's simple at first—just mash buttons and watch the numbers pop—but then you realize positioning actually matters. Like, your archer gets wrecked if enemies slip past your front line, so you gotta think two steps ahead. The music's got that classic Yuzo Koshiro vibe too, all chippy and heroic.

It's not perfect—some of the dungeon layouts feel like they were designed to eat your quarters in an arcade—but there's something charming about how unapologetically old-school it is. You can finish it in an afternoon if you know what you're doing, but good luck figuring out which random NPC actually advances the plot.

Still holds up better than half the RPGs that actually got localized back then.
