Ka-Ge-Ki – Fists of Steel is one of those weird, rough-around-the-edges Genesis fighters that somehow sticks with you. It’s got this bizarre mix of digitized sprites (think Mortal Kombat, but grainier) and a weirdly satisfying clunkiness to the combat. You pick from these martial artists and mythical warriors—some hit like trucks, others feel like they’re swinging through molasses. The first time I tried the ninja, I got wrecked because his moves come out stupid fast, but the samurai? Heavy hits, slow recovery. Took me a few rounds to adjust.
Stages are these moody, low-detail backdrops with weirdly catchy synth tracks. Not gonna lie, the AI cheats like crazy on higher difficulties, but there’s something fun about the jank. If you’re into obscure 90s fighters, it’s a neat time capsule—just don’t expect Street Fighter polish.
