Alright, so JuJu Densetsu – Toki – Going Ape Spit is one of those weirdly charming Genesis platformers where you play as a dude-turned-ape who spits projectiles at enemies. Yeah, you read that right—spitting is your main attack. It’s ridiculous in the best way.
The first thing you’ll notice is how bright and cartoony everything looks—jungles, temples, floating platforms—all packed with these little animated details that give it personality. The controls take a second to get used to (your jumps feel a little floaty), but once you figure out the timing, bouncing between platforms while spitting fireballs at weird monsters becomes weirdly satisfying.
It’s not an easy game, though. Some of those later levels get brutal with enemy placement and jumps that require pixel-perfect precision. But there’s something about the goofy premise and vibrant art that makes you want to push through. If you’re into retro platformers with a side of absurdity, this one’s worth a shot.
