Man, John Madden Football '92 on Genesis takes me back—those chunky pixel players, the way the camera would tilt when someone broke into the open field. You pick a team (I always went Raiders just for Bo Jackson), call a play from that classic playbook menu, and suddenly you're in the thick of it. The running game feels weighty, like you're actually fighting for yards, and the tackles have this satisfying crunch.
It's not as polished as later Maddens, obviously, but there's something raw about it—no fancy cutscenes, just you and the play clock. The commentary's sparse but weirdly charming when Madden pops in with a "Boom!" after a big hit. And that two-player mode? Still holds up when you've got a buddy on the couch.
If you dig retro sports games, this one's got that early-90s magic where every first down feels earned.
