Joe & Mac – Caveman Ninja is one of those weird, chaotic Genesis platformers that somehow just works. You play as two cavemen (or team up with a friend) smacking dinosaurs with clubs, riding pterodactyls, and chucking boomerangs at weird frog creatures. The first level throws you right into it—jungle vines, lava pits, and these little blue cavemen enemies that bounce around like they’ve had too much prehistoric caffeine.
The controls are simple but satisfying—your club swings in a nice wide arc, and the jumping feels just floaty enough to make those platforming sections tense but not frustrating. There’s something hilarious about bonking a T-Rex on the nose and watching it stagger back. And the power-ups? Classic 90s randomness—one minute you’re tossing bones, the next you’re shooting fireballs.
It’s not the deepest game, but the sheer energy of it—the bright colors, the chunky sprites, that weirdly catchy tribal soundtrack—makes it hard to put down. If you’re into old-school co-op chaos, this one’s a blast. Just watch out for the quicksand pits.
