Joe and Mac is one of those goofy, colorful Genesis platformers that just oozes early '90s charm. You play as two cavemen (yep, Joe and Mac) who have to rescue their girlfriends from a bunch of grumpy Neanderthals—because apparently, cavemen drama was a thing back then.

The first thing you’ll notice is how bright and cartoony everything looks—lush jungles, caves with weirdly detailed stalactites, and volcanoes that spit fire in the most dramatic way possible. The controls are simple—you jump, you bonk enemies with clubs, and you throw bones like some kind of prehistoric baseball pitcher. But the real fun comes from the little details, like riding dinosaurs or chucking boomerangs that somehow always come back (even when you don’t want them to).

It’s not the hardest game out there, but it’s got this weirdly satisfying loop of smacking dinosaurs and collecting power-ups while the soundtrack blares these upbeat, bouncy tunes. If you’re into old-school platformers with a side of caveman nonsense, this one’s a solid time. Just don’t expect a deep story—unless you count “hit things, save girl” as deep.
