Jim Power – Mutant Planet (beta) Game

Okay, so Jim Power – Mutant Planet is one of those weird, kinda janky-but-charming Genesis platformers that feels like it teleported straight out of 1993. You play as this space marine dude (I think?) blasting through alien jungles and factories full of mutants that look like rejected Alien concept art. The controls are a little stiff—jumping feels like you’re wearing lead boots—but once you get used to it, there’s something satisfying about the way your gun just vibrates the screen when you fire.
The beta version’s got this rough-around-the-edges vibe—some levels cut off weirdly, the music glitches sometimes—but honestly, that just adds to the nostalgia. And that soundtrack? Pure Sega cheese, in the best way. You’ll either love it or mute it after five minutes.
Fair warning: It’s not exactly a hidden masterpiece, but if you’re into obscure retro platformers with weird enemy designs (why is that boss just a giant floating brain?), it’s a fun time. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
