James Bond 007: The Duel on Sega Genesis is one of those games that looks cooler than it plays. You get to run around as Bond, rescuing hostages and planting bombs—which sounds awesome—but the controls can be a little stubborn. Like, you’ll press duck to avoid gunfire, but Bond takes his sweet time actually doing it. The animations aren’t exactly snappy either, so you’ll eat a few bullets just waiting for him to finish his little crouch.
Visually, it’s not bad for a Genesis title—Bond’s sprite is pretty detailed, and the levels have that classic spy movie vibe. But man, the gameplay can feel like a duel against the controls more than the enemies. Still, if you’re a Bond fan or just love old-school platformers with a twist, it’s got its moments.
