Ever played one of those weird, kinda janky retro games that somehow sticks with you? It Came From The Desert on the Sega Genesis is exactly that—a bizarre mix of strategy, action, and giant ant panic. You’re dumped into this desert town where everything seems normal… until, well, the ants show up. And not the tiny picnic-crashing kind—these things are the size of trucks.

At first, you’re just driving around, talking to locals, trying to figure out what’s going on. Then suddenly, you’re in a top-down shooter segment blasting antennae off mutant bugs. The controls take some getting used to (classic Genesis quirkiness), but there’s something weirdly addictive about balancing resource management with frantic bug-hunting. Also, the soundtrack slaps—tense synth beats that make even a gas station stop feel like a horror movie scene.

It’s not perfect—some mechanics feel clunky now, and good luck figuring out certain objectives without a guide—but the atmosphere is so uniquely ‘80s B-movie that it’s hard not to love. If you dig retro oddities, this one’s a trip.
