Okay, so Ice Age on the Genesis is one of those licensed games that actually doesn’t suck—surprising, right? You play as Manny, Sid, or Diego (or Scrat if you’re feeling chaotic) in a side-scroller that’s basically "avoid the falling icicles and angry prehistoric critters while collecting acorns." The controls are a little slippery, but in a way that kinda fits the whole ice theme.
The graphics are bright and cartoony, with some nice parallax scrolling in the background. First level throws you right into a snowstorm, dodging collapsing ice bridges and those weird saber-tooth squirrels from the movie. Sid’s jump is weirdly floaty, but Manny’s charge move is stupidly satisfying when you plow through enemies.
It’s not gonna blow your mind, but if you’re into ‘90s platformers or just love the movie, it’s a solid way to kill an afternoon. Just don’t expect Scrat’s acorn obsession to save you from bottomless pits.
