About Hybrid Front, The (japan) (beta)
Hybrid Front was a Japan only beta release for the Sega Genesis, developed by Sega. It appeared late in the console's life, a time when developers were pushing the hardware with more complex strategy games.
You command a squad of mechs on grid based battlefields, moving them one by one to engage enemy units. The main objective is to eliminate all opposing forces or capture their headquarters across a series of missions. Key mechanics include positioning your units to exploit terrain advantages and using a rock paper scissors style system where certain weapon types are strong or weak against specific armor. The pacing is deliberate, requiring careful planning for each turn, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you overextend a unit. It feels like a demanding chess match played with walking tanks.
