Ever played Humans, The on Sega Genesis? It’s one of those weird little puzzle-strategy games that somehow sticks with you. You control a tribe of cavemen (and women) who are, let’s be honest, not the brightest—they’ll walk straight off cliffs if you let them. Your job is to guide them through these maze-like levels, picking up tools like spears, torches, and ladders to help them survive and, eventually, evolve.
The first few levels ease you in—just figuring out how to stack rocks to climb or time jumps so your whole squad doesn’t plummet to their doom. But later stages get brutal, with fire pits, wild animals, and traps everywhere. The DS version supposedly smoothed things out, but the Genesis original has that janky charm where half the challenge is wrestling with the controls.
It’s not flashy, but there’s something satisfying about finally getting your dumb little humans to the exit in one piece.
