About Hook
I first played Hook on the Sega Genesis back in 1992. It was published by Sony Imagesoft, and it was one of many games from that era trying to capture the feel of a movie license. You control Peter Pan, and the story follows the plot of the Robin Williams film pretty closely. The goal is to rescue your children, Jack and Maggie, from Captain Hook, which means fighting your way through various levels set in Neverland.
You move Peter screen by screen through side scrolling areas, using a short sword to fight pirates and other enemies. The combat is simple; you just press the attack button to swing. You also get to fly for short bursts by collecting fairy dust, which lets you reach higher platforms or avoid ground hazards. The main objective involves finding specific items, like a hidden treasure or a key, to progress. The game can be quite difficult, with some tricky platforming sections and enemies that respawn quickly. Playing it feels like a straightforward, sometimes challenging run through a familiar story.
