About Herzog Zwei (usa, Europe)
Herzog Zwei came out for the Sega Genesis in 1989, developed by Technosoft. It was one of those games that felt different from everything else on the platform at the time, sitting somewhere between an action game and something more strategic.
You control a transforming mech, switching between a fast jet for travel and a ground robot for direct combat. Your main goal is to destroy the enemy base while defending your own. You capture neutral outposts to generate units, which you then order to attack or defend using a simple menu. The game plays out in real time, so you are constantly managing your units while flying across the map to intervene in fights. It can be quite difficult, as you need to multitask and react quickly to the enemy's movements. The feeling of swooping in to turn the tide of a battle is consistently rewarding.
