About Herzog Zwei (japan)
Herzog Zwei came out for the Sega Genesis in 1989, developed by Technosoft. It was one of those games that felt different from everything else on the platform at the time, sitting somewhere between a shooter and something more strategic.
You control a transforming mech, switching between a fast jet for travel and a ground robot for direct combat. Your main goal is to destroy the enemy base while defending your own. You capture neutral outposts to generate units, which you then order to attack or defend by setting waypoints directly on the map. The pacing is relentless; you are constantly managing your units, flying across the battlefield to support an attack, and fending off enemy assaults. It feels like a frantic, high-stakes tug of war where a single mistake can turn the tide.
