I picked up Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters when it came out on the Nintendo DS in 2011. It was developed by Double Helix Games, and it felt like a solid fit for that era of handhelds, where you could get a decent action game on the go without too much fuss. It wasn't trying to reinvent the wheel, just offering a straightforward Green Lantern adventure.

You control Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern, flying and fighting through levels that scroll from left to right. The main goal is to stop the robotic Manhunters from causing chaos across the universe. You use your power ring to create various constructs, like a giant fist for punching or a gatling gun for ranged attacks. The combat is simple but satisfying, letting you chain together light and heavy attacks to clear screens of enemies. You also collect willpower orbs to upgrade your abilities, which gives you a reason to explore each stage thoroughly. The pacing is pretty quick, and the difficulty feels fair, never becoming overly punishing. It feels like a competent beat 'em up that captures the simple fun of using a power ring to smash robots.
