GrandSlam - The Tennis Tournament '92 is one of those early '90s tennis games that somehow nails the arcade feel without being overly complicated. You pick from a handful of players (no real pros, just generic power hitters and baseline grinders), and the matches move fast—no endless rallies here. The controls are simple: one button for regular shots, another for lobs, and timing matters way more than fancy tricks.
What I like is how snappy it feels. The ball physics are a little floaty, but in a way that makes those cross-court winners satisfying. The courts look decent for the era, with a nice contrast between clay and grass, though don’t expect Wimbledon-level detail. And yeah, it’s Japan-only, but menus are easy enough to figure out—just smash A until you’re playing.
If you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a solid serve-and-volley pick.
