Global Gladiators is one of those weird, early '90s platformers that somehow got McDonald's branding—yeah, that McDonald's—but don’t let that fool you. You play as a kid armed with a slingshot, bouncing through four polluted worlds (oil spills, toxic waste, the usual) while Ronald McDonald pops up to cheer you on. The enemies? Literal trash monsters and sentient sludge. It’s bizarre, but the controls are tight, and the levels have this grimy charm that makes you want to see what weird hazard comes next.
First level throws you into a junkyard full of bouncing tires and oil puddles, and you quickly realize this isn’t just another mascot cash-in. The music’s surprisingly catchy too, in that classic Genesis screechy-synth way. By the time you’re fighting a giant soda can boss, you’re either all-in or questioning your life choices. Either way, it’s a trip.
