General Chaos came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed by Game Refuge Inc. It was a time when the 16-bit consoles were full of experiments, and this game was a distinct one, a chaotic take on military strategy that felt more like a cartoon brawl than a serious war simulation.
You control a squad of five soldiers, each with a unique weapon like a flamethrower or grenade launcher, and direct them across single-screen battlefields. The main goal is to eliminate the enemy squad before they eliminate yours. You issue simple move and attack commands, but the signature chaos comes from the friendly fire; your own explosions can hurt your men, and the screen fills with unpredictable crossfire. Matches are fast and often decided in minutes, with a difficulty that spikes sharply if you are not careful with your positioning.
