Gauntlet IV is one of those classic Genesis dungeon crawlers that still holds up—especially if you've got a friend or three to tag along. You pick from the usual lineup: warrior, valkyrie, wizard, or elf, and then it's straight into these maze-like dungeons packed with ghosts, grunts, and way too many spawners. The first time I played, I went with the elf because, well, arrows, but turns out the valkyrie’s melee is way more satisfying when you’re swarmed.
What I love is how chaotic it gets when you’re low on health and scrambling for food drops while dodging projectiles. The puzzles aren’t brain-melters, but they’re just tricky enough to make you pause mid-slash. And yeah, the graphics are pure ‘90s—chunky sprites, vibrant colors—but that’s part of the charm. If you’re into co-op chaos or just want a solid solo grind, this one’s a blast. Just don’t blame me when you lose hours to "just one more level."
