Gauntlet 4 is one of those old-school dungeon crawlers where you pick a class—warrior, wizard, elf, or valkyrie—and just start hacking through waves of skeletons, ghosts, and whatever else the game throws at you. The Genesis version actually holds up pretty well, with that classic top-down view and satisfyingly chunky sprites.
At first, I always went for the warrior because, well, sword go brrr. But after a few deaths, I realized the wizard’s area spells are way more useful when you’re getting swarmed. The multiplayer is where it really shines, though—nothing like yelling at your friend for hogging all the food drops while you’re both desperately low on health.
It’s got that perfect mix of mindless fun and “oh crap, I need to actually think about positioning” moments. Just don’t expect a deep story—this is pure arcade-style monster bashing with a side of loot. If you’ve got a Genesis and a buddy, it’s a solid way to kill an afternoon.
