About Flintstones, The (europe)
I first played The Flintstones on the Sega Genesis, the European version from 1993. It was published by Grandslam and developed by Taito, arriving during a time when licensed platformers were common on the system. The game did not try to reinvent the wheel, but it offered a solid, cartoon-accurate trip to Bedrock.
You control Fred Flintstone across various levels, moving screen by screen to rescue Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm. The main objective is straightforward: navigate through prehistoric environments, from dense jungles to Dino's interior, to find your captured kids. Your primary actions involve jumping on enemies and throwing rocks; you can also use a bowling ball for a more powerful, rolling attack. The game requires careful platforming and some light puzzle solving, like hitting switches to open new paths. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with precise jumps and enemy placement. Playing it feels like a direct, hands-on visit to the Stone Age, where every jump and thrown rock matters.
