Flicky came out for the Sega Genesis in 1989, a time when the console was building its library with a mix of arcade ports and original titles. You control a small blue bird, Flicky, and your job is to rescue all the little Piyo chicks scattered across each single-screen stage. You run and jump through these multi-level rooms, herding the Piyos together. They follow you in a line, and you have to guide your whole flock to the exit door without losing any. Cats and lizards patrol the area, and if they touch a Piyo, it gets scared and runs off, forcing you to collect it again. The challenge comes from managing your entire group while dodging enemies, and the pace gets frantic as more creatures appear. It feels like a cheerful, sometimes stressful, game of cat and mouse where you are both the protector and the target.
