About Flashback (japan)
Flashback came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed by Delphine Software. It was part of that wave of cinematic platformers on the system, games that tried to tell a more involved story with detailed animation. You play as Conrad B. Hart, a scientist who has lost his memory and is being hunted across alien worlds.
You control Conrad from a side view, guiding him through environments that scroll screen by screen. Your main goal is to piece together what happened by exploring cities, jungles, and industrial complexes, talking to characters and finding key items. The gameplay is a mix of precise platforming, where you must time your run and jumps carefully, and combat using a energy pistol. You can also crouch behind cover and use a shield for protection. The pacing is deliberate, often requiring you to observe patrol patterns and solve environmental puzzles to proceed. It feels like unraveling a mystery where every new area brings you closer to the truth.
