About Flashback
Flashback came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Delphine Software. It was part of that wave of cinematic platformers on 16-bit consoles, games that tried to tell a bigger story with more detailed animation. You could see the ambition right from the start.
You control Conrad B. Hart, a scientist on the run after his memory is wiped. Your main goal is to piece together what happened while evading the shapeshifting aliens hunting you. The game unfolds screen by screen; you explore dense jungles, infiltrate guarded cities, and solve environmental puzzles. Combat is deliberate, relying on a limited energy shield and a pistol you must aim carefully. The pacing is slow and methodical, and the difficulty is significant, demanding precise jumps and smart enemy encounters. Playing it feels like navigating a dangerous, interconnected puzzle where every action has weight.
