About Fire Shark (europe)
Fire Shark came out for the Sega Genesis in 1990, developed by Toaplan. It was one of many vertical shooters on the system, a familiar sight for players at the time. The game doesn't try to reinvent the genre; it just drops you into its world and expects you to keep up.
You pilot a fighter plane, moving upward through waves of enemy aircraft and ground installations. Your main goal is to survive each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end. Your primary weapon is a rapid shot, but collecting power-ups changes its spread and strength. You also have a screen clearing bomb for emergencies, which you use sparingly. The game moves quickly, with enemies swarming from all directions, and the difficulty is consistent. It feels like a direct, demanding test of your reflexes and positioning.
