Final Fantasy VI is one of those SNES classics that still holds up today—especially this fan-translated version that stays true to the original Japanese script. You start off with Terra, a girl with mysterious powers, trudging through the snow in some weird magitek armor, and within minutes, the game throws you into political intrigue, rebellion, and a cast of characters that actually feel like people, not just tropes.

Kefka’s still one of the best villains in RPG history—not just because he’s powerful, but because he’s completely unhinged. The way he grins while burning down towns or casually ruins lives makes him way more unsettling than your usual "dark lord" types. And the party? You’ve got a thief with a heart of gold, a knight struggling with guilt, even a yeti who joins you if you’re paying attention. The Esper system lets you customize magic growth, so your team can end up totally different from someone else’s playthrough.

Oh, and the soundtrack? Nobuo Uematsu at his peak. The opera scene alone is worth experiencing. This version’s translation also keeps the original’s darker tone intact, which makes the story hit harder. If you’ve only played the North American SNES release, you’re in for some surprises.
