Final Fantasy II - HardType on SNES is basically the original game cranked up to 11. If you remember breezing through the vanilla version back in the day, this mod will knock you flat in the first dungeon—enemies hit harder, magic costs more MP, and that early-game ogre? Yeah, good luck.
What I love is how it forces you to actually think about party composition instead of just grinding your way to victory. White mages aren’t optional anymore, and that one guy who always hoards potions? He’s gonna need them. The tweaked spell progression means Fire isn’t useless by mid-game, and some of the rebalanced gear (looking at you, Blood Sword) finally feels worth the grind.
It’s still FFII at heart—weird leveling system, awkward translations, all that—but the added friction makes victories way more satisfying. Just don’t expect to button-mash your way through like the original. You’ll need every trick in the book this time.
