Fatal Fury on the Genesis is one of those old-school fighters that just feels right—clunky in that charming '90s way, but with enough punch to keep you hooked. You’ve got Terry Bogard’s iconic Power Wave, Mai’s fans flying everywhere, and Geese Howard being the smug final boss he always is. The two-plane fighting (jumping between foreground and background) still trips me up sometimes, but it’s cool how it adds a little extra strategy.
It’s not as polished as Street Fighter II, but there’s something raw about it—the way the hits land with a satisfying thud, the exaggerated win poses, even the slightly off voice samples. I always end up maining Joe because his kicks are ridiculous, but good luck beating Geese without cheesing him. This is pure arcade nostalgia, warts and all.
