FIFA Soccer 2000 Gold Edition on the Genesis is one of those games that somehow still holds up—even if the players look like pixelated action figures. The second you boot it up, you get that classic FIFA menu music and team selection screen, where half the fun is scrolling through squads with hilariously outdated rosters.
Gameplay’s faster than you’d expect for a 16-bit soccer sim, with just enough slide-tackle chaos to keep things messy in the best way. The commentary’s repetitive (obviously), but hearing “GOOOOAL!” never gets old. And yeah, the graphics were “improved” for the Gold Edition, but let’s be real—it’s still pure ’90s charm, right down to the chunky animations when someone gets fouled.
If you’ve got a Genesis collecting dust, this one’s a solid pick for quick matches. Just don’t expect fancy skill moves—this is old-school, hold-down-sprint-and-pray soccer.
