EA Sports released FIFA 98: Road to World Cup for the Sega Genesis in 1997, a time when the 16-bit console was still active alongside newer systems. This version was distinct from its PlayStation and PC counterparts, built specifically for the older hardware. It was one of the final major football titles for the Genesis, arriving just as the industry was shifting to 3D.
You control a team of eleven players, passing and shooting to score goals against the opposing side. The main objective is to win matches and progress through the qualification stages to reach the World Cup finals.
