F-22 Interceptor on the Genesis was one of those games that made you feel like a legit fighter pilot—if you could get past the slightly janky controls. The moment you take off, there’s this weird mix of arcade simplicity and "wait, how do I lock onto targets again?" panic. The graphics were impressive for '92, with these chunky but satisfying explosions and terrain that actually looked decent from way up high.
Dogfights start simple—just lining up shots on slow-moving bombers—but before long, you're getting swarmed by enemy jets that actually try to outmaneuver you. The missile warning beep still haunts me. And yeah, the F-22 itself handles like a brick at first, but once you get the hang of banking turns without stalling, it’s weirdly rewarding. Just don’t expect a sim—this is pure, slightly chaotic arcade action with a military paint job.
It’s not perfect, but for a Genesis flight game, it nailed that "one more try" feeling when you barely scrape through a mission. Still holds up if you’re into retro flight shooters.
