About Ex-mutants (usa, Europe)
Ex-Mutants came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed by Malibu Interactive. It was part of that wave of side-scrolling action games that filled the library, based on a comic book series that never became a household name. You don't hear about it much now, but it had a certain look that stood out on the system.
You control one of two mutant brothers, Dex or Buzz, on a mission to rescue your kidnapped friends. The game plays out screen by screen; you move through jungles and enemy bases, using a boomerang and a short-range energy punch to fight off other mutants and robots. You need to find specific items to unlock new areas, which involves a lot of backtracking through the levels. The pacing can feel slow, and the difficulty spikes sharply, especially during some of the platforming sections. It's a game that requires patience, and playing it feels like a deliberate, sometimes frustrating trek through a hostile world.
