About Eternal Champions
Eternal Champions came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed and published by Sega. It was part of that wave of fighting games trying to carve out a space on the console, distinct from the arcade giants of the time.
You control one of several fighters, each pulled from different historical periods to battle in a tournament for a chance to alter their own fatal history. The main objective is to defeat all the other champions across a series of one-on-one fights. Its signature mechanics include stage fatalities, where you can use the background environment to finish an opponent, and the Overkills, which are even more elaborate finishing moves. The game is known for its high difficulty, demanding precise inputs and a good deal of practice to master its characters. Playing it feels like a deliberate and sometimes punishing test of your execution and matchup knowledge.
