About Eternal Champions (europe)
Eternal Champions came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed and published by Sega. It was part of that wave of fighting games trying to carve out space beyond the big arcade hits, offering a darker, more complex alternative on the home console.
You pick one of nine fighters, each pulled from different time periods, to compete in a tournament for a chance to rewrite history. The main goal is to defeat your opponent in one-on-one combat across various stages. Its signature mechanics include stage fatalities, where you can knock your rival into a deadly environmental hazard, and the Overkills, which are even more elaborate finishing moves. The game also has a unique block button and special moves that require precise inputs. Matches can feel methodical, with a heavier emphasis on strategy and positioning compared to some faster rivals. Landing one of those Overkills after a tough fight provides a real sense of finality.
