About El Viento (japan)
El Viento came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed by Wolf Team. It was part of that wave of action games from the early 90s that tried to do something a little different, in this case mixing 1920s gangster settings with ancient gods.
You control Earnest, a young South American sorceress, fighting through city streets and temples to stop a cult from resurrecting the deity Hastur. The game progresses screen by screen, locking you in until you defeat all the enemies. Your main attack is a short range dagger slash, but you also collect power ups for magic spells that let you throw fireballs or call down lightning. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from all sides, and the difficulty is punishing if you don't learn the patterns. Playing it feels like a constant, frantic scramble for survival.
