About Ecco Jr. (usa, Australia) (february 1995)
Ecco Jr. came out for the Sega Genesis in 1995, a time when the console was well established. It was developed by Novotrade and published by Sega, serving as a more accessible spin-off from the main Ecco the Dolphin series. This game arrived when developers were experimenting with different genres and audiences on the 16-bit hardware.
You control a young dolphin, Ecco Jr., swimming through a series of connected underwater screens. Your main goal is to find and help other sea creatures, often by locating lost family members or solving simple environmental puzzles. The gameplay revolves around using your sonar to communicate with animals and interact with objects, while also performing jumps and swimming maneuvers to navigate the ocean. The pace is deliberately slow and relaxed, with no enemies or time pressures, making it much easier than its predecessor. Guiding the young dolphin through the quiet, colorful seascapes creates a calm and exploratory feeling.
