ESWAT – City Under Siege is one of those Sega Genesis games that starts off simple—just a cop in body armor taking down street thugs—but then suddenly dumps you into a full cyberpunk power fantasy. After the first mission, you upgrade to this chunky exosuit that turns you into a walking tank, complete with a spread shot and grenade launcher. Feels awesome... until you realize the enemies scale up just as fast.
The side-scrolling action’s solid, though some of the platforming bits can be janky (looking at you, sewer level). Boss fights are the real highlight—big, screen-filling mechs and mutants that force you to learn patterns or eat pavement. It’s got that classic Sega difficulty too, so expect a few rage-quits before you memorize enemy spawns. The soundtrack’s all synthy urgency, perfect for blasting through waves of goons.
Not gonna lie, it’s rough around the edges by today’s standards, but there’s something satisfying about stomping through its neon-drenched dystopia. Just don’t forget to stock up on extra lives.
