ESPN Baseball Tonight on the Genesis is one of those early '90s sports games that somehow nails the feel of baseball without drowning you in stats or fancy animations. You pick your team—I always went with the Blue Jays—and jump right into a game where the pitching feels surprisingly tight for its time. Fastballs actually feel fast, and good luck hitting a curveball if you're not paying attention.
The fielding is a little clunky (this is 16-bit baseball), but there's something satisfying about diving for a line drive or nailing a runner at home. And yeah, the commentary is just text boxes popping up, but hearing "That ball is gone!" after a homer never gets old. It’s not the deepest baseball sim, but it’s way more fun than it has any right to be.
If you’ve got a Genesis collecting dust somewhere, this one’s worth digging out for a quick game.
