Dragon's Revenge is one of those Genesis games that makes you go "Oh yeah, I remember this!" the second the title screen hits. You play as this absolutely furious dragon out to burn everything in sight—which, honestly, feels great after a long day. The first level throws you right into it: swooping over castles, torching knights who definitely had it coming, and dodging arrows like some kind of scaled acrobat.
The controls take a minute to click—your dragon handles like a mix between a fighter jet and a drunk bat at first. But once you get the hang of banking turns and timing your fire breath, it’s stupidly satisfying. The sprite work still holds up too, especially when you nail a dive bomb and leave a trail of pixelated flames behind you.
Fair warning though: some of those later levels get brutal. There’s one with floating platforms and wizards that had me resetting more times than I’d like to admit. But that’s part of the charm—it’s got that old-school "throw your controller but secretly love it" difficulty. If you’re into retro games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a blast.
