Dragon's Lair for the Sega Genesis is one of those games that never actually came out. It was supposed to be developed and published by ReadySoft around the early 90s, when the console was full of arcade ports and action platformers. You would hear whispers about it in magazines, a potential adaptation of the laserdisc classic, but it just never appeared on store shelves.

In the available prototype, you control Dirk the Daring, moving him screen by screen through a castle filled with traps and monsters. Your main goal is to rescue Princess Daphne from the dragon Singe, navigating a series of single screen rooms. The gameplay relies heavily on timing; you swing your sword at skeletons, avoid falling axes, and jump over bottomless pits. Each room presents a new environmental puzzle or enemy pattern to overcome. The difficulty is unforgiving, demanding precise inputs to survive. Playing it feels like a tense, methodical test of memory and reflexes.
