Dragon’s Eye Plus – Shanghai III is one of those weirdly addictive Genesis puzzlers that sneaks up on you. At first glance, it’s just mahjong solitaire—tile matching, clearing the board, all that. But then the dragon motifs creep in, the music gets weirdly intense, and suddenly you’re three hours deep trying to crack some ancient-looking layout.
The Sega version has this grimy early ‘90s aesthetic that somehow works. The tiles clack when you match them, and there’s this faint hiss in the background like an old VHS tape. Not gonna lie, some of the later stages feel borderline unfair, but that’s part of the charm. You’ll either rage-quit or develop a bizarre attachment to it—no in-between.
If you’ve got nostalgia for obscure Genesis oddities, this one’s a time capsule. Just don’t blame me when you start seeing tile patterns in your sleep.
