Dragon Slayer – Eiyuu Densetsu II is one of those old-school RPGs that feels like it was made for people who love grinding just a little too much. You start off weak—like, "a stray goblin could ruin your day" weak—but slowly build up your hero through turn-based battles and dungeon crawling. The pixel art has that classic Sega Genesis charm, with chunky sprites and surprisingly moody backgrounds for its time.
What I like is how unapologetically retro it is. No hand-holding, no quest markers—just you, a sword, and a lot of wandering around trying to figure out which NPC actually has a useful clue. The magic system’s a bit clunky at first, but once you get the hang of it, frying enemies with fireballs never gets old. Just don’t expect a breezy playthrough—this one makes you work for that dragon-slaying glory.
If you’ve got patience for ’90s RPG pacing and a soft spot for games that don’t explain themselves, it’s a solid time capsule.
