About Dragon Slayer - Eiyuu Densetsu (japan)
Dragon Slayer: Eiyuu Densetsu came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, a time when the 16-bit console was full of ambitious Japanese role-playing games. It was developed by Falcom, a company known for its computer RPGs, and this was their entry onto the popular home console. The game felt like a piece of that specific era, bridging the detailed worlds of PC games with the more accessible format of a cartridge.
You control a young hero exploring a world map and navigating towns and dungeons one screen at a time. Your main goal is to gather the scattered pieces of the Rune of Kings to prevent a great evil from returning. Combat is turn-based, initiated through random encounters on the field, where you choose attacks, magic, or items for your party. You spend a lot of time delving into multi-level dungeons, solving simple environmental puzzles, and gradually upgrading your equipment with gold from battles. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be steep, especially in some of the later dungeons where resource management becomes critical. Playing it feels like methodically uncovering a large, interconnected story through persistent exploration.
