Dragon Quest IV on the DS is one of those RPGs that just sticks with you. At first, you jump between different characters—a merchant, a princess, even a pair of bickering dancers—and their stories slowly weave together in this weirdly satisfying way. The turn-based combat’s simple but has that classic Dragon Quest charm, and the monster designs are still goofy in the best possible way. Also, the DS version adds this cool party chat feature where your crew actually reacts to stuff happening in the story, which makes the world feel way more alive. It’s old-school but in that cozy, well-paced way where you don’t mind grinding a little because the writing keeps you hooked.
